How I review

Useful, honest, and appropriately uncertain.

Shrug Lab is a personal review site, not a scientific laboratory. The method is simple enough to explain without pretending otherwise.

Site-wide verdict system

How to read a Shrug Lab verdict

Color supports the written conclusion. It never replaces the label or the reasoning behind it.

01

Real use comes first

I describe how I obtained a product, how long I used it and where I used it. A specification sheet is not an experience.

02

Research is labelled

Research-only picks can be useful, but they are never presented as things I personally tested.

03

Facts and opinions stay separate

Measurements, direct observations and personal conclusions answer different questions. The page should make the distinction visible.

04

Caveats belong near the verdict

A product can be good for a particular person and still be a poor general recommendation.

05

Recommendations can change

Usage and verdict status are updated when the product, market or my experience changes.

06

Commercial links come last

Affiliate relationships and discount codes are disclosed and do not determine the conclusion.
